Step-by-Step Process
Step 0: Find and Secure an Internship (Student)
The student is responsible for finding and securing an internship.
Step 1: Fill Out and Submit Application (Student)
The student fills out an application via Internship Application System (FireForm). The application includes details such as the name of the company and dates working, compensation, supervisor information, and long-form information regarding the duties and project that will be completed.
Step 2: Prerequisite Checks (System)
The system will automatically check if you have met the requirements for completing an internship for credit. You will be approved, conditionally approved, or rejected at this step.
What is conditional approval?
A conditional approval means that you are currently enrolled in your remaining core course(s). Your application will proceed forward assuming that you will successfully complete those courses and, if your internship is approved, you will be permitted to enroll in INFO I491. Once grades have been posted for your remaining course(s) your application will be validated; if at that time you do not meet the prerequisites you will be administratively dropped from INFO I491.
Step 3: Staff Approval
A staff member briefly looks through the application to check for completeness.
Step 4: Faculty Approval
Capstone internship faculty will examine your application and determine if it satisfies the capstone requirements.
If more information is required, your application will be rejected pending revision. Faculty will include note(s) concerning the areas requiring more information. Your application will go directly back to this step when it is resubmitted.
Step 5: Employer Approval (Your Employer/Supervisor)
Your listed supervisor must confirm that your application and duties are correct and that they will complete a performance evaluation at the conclusion of your internship. Your supervisor will receive this request via email within a business day of your application being approved by the faculty.
Step 6: Course Registration
Once your application receives faculty approval and employer approval, you will register for the course. You will receive registration instructions via email. Please do not attempt to register before receiving registration instructions. Permissions is added and instructions are sent (generally) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings by the academic operations team.
